Groeneveld Castle has one of the three xylotheques in the Netherlands. A xylotheque looks like a row of books on the outside, but they are not.

They are actually boxes in the form of a book. Each box contains a description of a tree, some dried leaves, pieces of wood, a bud, branch or fruit of this tree.

The box itself is also made of wood that comes from the described tree. The back of the ‘bookis covered with bark from the tree.

The xylotheek in Groeneveld Castle has been on display since 1980. You can find the xylotheek in a climate cupboard in the linen room of the castle.
